The year is 2083. Tanner Hill is a city in northeastern Colorado, and is essentially cut off from the rest of the world. Entering it is not nearly as difficult as leaving, and it has been found impossible thus far for metanths to leave the city at all. The climate is fairly neutral and stable, with little extreme weather. There has been no natural disaster, no apocalyptic warfare. The world is very much the same as it was seventy years ago.
In the nineteenth century, Tanner Hill was founded on a hill juxtaposing a river by a family of tanners, who also brought some friends along to settle with them during a migration of settlers in covered wagons. The Tanner family eventually grew larger and created the Tanner Corporation in the early twentieth century which, through a series of shady back alley deals, came to be known as the Netherfield Associates during the fifties, thanks to some involvement in Cold War shenanigans. This company became quite industrious, and Tanner Hill became its main source of operations, making it essentially a company owned town with all the workers as its employees.
As time progressed, Netherfield Associates began investing in research of all sorts, as well as some further political monkeyshines in global hotspots. They formed a branch of the company for mercenaries and weapons sales, they formed a branch for food production, they formed a branch for research, for entertainment, and so forth. They could have made their own country. As it turns out, they did, in a way. They ended up essentially buying the city of Tanner Hill, and cut it off from the rest of the world, hiring a private everything for it; to increase genetic diversity, they created incentives for people of all different ages and backgrounds. Using patented technology that it developed, Netherfield Associates created essentially a wall that prevented certain people from leaving. Certain people with certain genes, certain people who knew certain things.

The North Side of Tanner Hill is where the wealthy live, those who are lucky enough to be able to be born or to drag themselves out of the rampant semi-slavery that persists in other parts of the city. It includes the university and the high school for the upper class families, North Tanner High. It has an opera house slash theater for live performances in addition to the other buildings listed.
Tanner Luxury Living - The main place for all of the wealthy to live. It has luxury, high class condos and apartments in the same complex. It has several floors, but stops at the twelfth. This complex even has its own garage for cars, since many of these families have their own automotive vehicles, unlike the rest of Tanner Hill.
Tanner Hill Country Club - Well, if you're going to be rich, why not be rich with other rich people? The country club has a golf course and an equestrian stable as well as a massive ballroom and seemingly constant parties.
Aula Anthina - The fanciest restaurant in the city, Aula Anthina, which means roughly Flower Castle, is far too expensive for the average meal eater. Beautiful, luxurious, and elegant, there is little more an upper class gourmand could want.
North Tanner High - The high school for the upper class, North Tanner High is obviously the better off of the two high schools in the city. While both are free, as long as someone in the family works for Netherfield Associates, or happens to own it, at least, North Tanner High gets much of the private donations. Its colors are silver and emerald and its mascot is a knight. Go, Knights! While there is no uniform, many of the students enforce their own sort of dress code. It is a castle-like stone building equipped with all athletic facilities and classrooms, as well as the most up-to-date materials for learning.
Meyer University - Clearly the next step for anyone who has attended North Tanner High, its acceptance rate for that school is nearly one hundred percent. South Tanner High, now, that is a different story. It is a city campus, but it takes up a large portion of space, nearly four hundred acres, and has many buildings. While not one of the top universities in the country, Meyer University has a good enough reputation to bring in outsiders to add to its diversity. It is named after one of the associates of Netherfield Associates who paid for it.

East Side The East Side, also known as Downtown Tanner Hill, is where much of the living and working and playing occurs. It is the heart of the city, with all of the main buildings. The hospital, movie theater, shopping center, police station - and thus temporary prison - and nightclub are here, as well as everything else you would expect to be downtown.
Netherfield Associates Offices - The main place for all of your good old white collar jobs. Just about everything regarding Netherfield Associates occurs here; legal, financial, executive, etc. Everyone from the mindless drone to the top ranking board member checks in here for work. If you're not working in the factory or one of the small businesses in the city, you're here.
Police Station - Complete with its own small set of prison cells, the police station, which has no benefactor's name because it is funded by the entire corporation of Netherfield Associates, is hardly a government organization. Maybe it looks as if it is from the outside, but once you get to the higher rungs, you'll see, it's pretty much just a merc force. Doesn't mean you don't find the good ones. There are quite a few mounted police since automotive vehicles are uncommon in Tanner Hill and reserved for the wealthy few.
Lindsey Hawkins Hospital - Named after the first doctor in Tanner Hill, Lindsey Hawkins, whose family is now an important member of Netherfield Associates, this hospital is technically public. The health care is free, although it is a well-known fact that Netherfield Associates employees get the best, fastest treatment. There is a rumor that some of LHH's employees are involved in not-so-clean matters regarding certain desirable medicines. Should anyone be caught dealing in these things by Netherfields Associates or the city police, he or she had best pray.
Cafe de Hill - The cafe and general small restaurant, the Cafe de Hill is a quaint coffee shop in the middle of downtown, so it is easy to reach. The atmosphere is pleasant, though there is no free internet here. Then again, there isn't much free internet anywhere, so, no biggy.
Riverwoode Park - The beautiful main park of Tanner Hill, Riverwoode Park is not named after a person but rather a description of the location from when Tanner Hill was first founded. It had been assumed to be cursed when the first families arrived, so it was not settled. Now, of course, those superstitions are dispelled -- supposedly -- but it was preserved as a pristine public park.
Tanner Hill Shopping Center - Home to the movie theater, which rarely plays anything that was released after 2040, as well as just about every other business that exists in Tanner Hill. If you want to buy something, anything, come here. It has the general store, the supermarket, the clothing shops, everything.
Walker Gym & Athletics - Almost ironically named "Walker" Gym & Athletics, this is the only public gym in the city. Named after one of the associates of Netherfield Associates, this gym has everything you could want from a gym, including several pools.
Netherfield Hotel and Apartments - Since the university is right in the city, Netherfield Associates saw a positive business venture in opening a hotel and an apartment building downtown. They are very modern in their style and range in prices. They both are animal-friendly. It has 25 floors, each floor with six units, except the penthouse, which has three units, two of which are condominiums. On every floor, units D-F are condominiums and units A-C are apartments.
Fireform Nightclub - Not named after anything but the appearance of dancers in the flashing lights, it is the underbelly of Tanner Hill, the only place near the wealthy that is not flushed out and exterminated. It is a nightclub, sure, but there is an additional wing that hosts dancers of a certain variety, both male and female. Prostitution is illegal of course, but who knows exactly what goes on in the dark?

The majority of Tanner Hill's citizens reside here, in the south end of the city. It is for the middle- and lower classes. It has a bar and a small, sad park, though many people have a fierce protective spirit toward it. Also, it has the only safe location to truly swim in the Wowokan River. It is the shadow of the North Side.
Brook Street Apartments - The main living space for people living in the South Side. Brook St. has most of the residential buildings, and there are several along the row. The middle class residents are closer to the East Side while the poorer folks are nearer the West. There are three fairly uniform brick buildings, 12 Brook Street, or A, 14 Brook Street, or B, and 15 South Cross, or C. Each building has 15 floors, each floor has about 10 units. 15 South Cross, C, was built after the fire in the West Side.
South Tanner High - The main high school of the city, South Tanner High is a poor facility with rather pathetic educational standards. If a student gets into Meyer University, if a student even tries, it is a miracle. The athletics are what matter more, though even those are low on the list. It seems that the main purpose of South Tanner High is to make sure that the new generation always will be employed by Netherfield Associates. Its colors are "Coal and Crimson", so ordained by its board of directors who are fancy pants, so, black and red, and its mascot is a pirate. Go, Pirates!
Muddy Molly's - The most famous bar in town, it is a great hangout spot for anyone who might appear to be over fifteen. It has a way of making people feel like family, and in here, it is mostly safe. Of course, there are bar fights and the like, but, hey, that's every bar. As far as the South Side goes, this space is a fortress, perhaps the heart of the community. The reason for its title is unknown, though many people have their own theories.
Underwood Park - The park in South Side, Underwood Park is named after an Underwood who bought the land and then donated it to the city after Netherfield Associates took over officially. It has a small metal and wooden playground which frequently sports broken swing sets and dirty slides. Its most noticeable feature is a large statue of what seems to be the grim reaper, a cloaked figure sitting. In the winter, it is especially chilling.
Wowokan River - The river that runs through, around, whatever all of Tanner Hill, it was named Wowokan by settlers attempting to use words of the people who had lived here earlier. They weren't exactly right, but they liked the sound of it, and it stuck, almost a mockery of all Native American culture. This spot in the South Side is the only safe place to swim because the currents and the depth are appropriate, and the temperature is rarely deadly. In the winter, it is thick enough for ice skating, though there are always warnings against it. [/blockquote]

West Side The shame of the city, that area that nobody wants to admit exists, is the West Side. It has the warehouses, the docks, and the factories. If you're poor, you're probably going to be here a lot because there isn't going to be any other place for you really to get work. At least by working here, you can have a roof over your head, generally, and maybe food on your plate. The factory is designed to use its waste as a form of energy, but it is hardly clean, so it stays in this area, sometimes seeping into use on the edges of the South Side. In 2068, there was a devastating fire, causes unknown, that ravaged the West Side and left many people homeless and jobless. Frequently, vigils sweep to clear out the homeless vagrants and the potentially dangerous or ill; what happens to them is unknown. The West Side is incredibly sketchy, and it is not advisable to be here after dark.
Tanner Hill Wharf - The docks of the city, the main place for imports and exports to come and go. The dock workers are almost all vigils, so nobody who's not exceedingly involved with Netherfield Associates knows exactly how things get in and out without ships really appearing, or how it's explained that people [metanths] are mysteriously caught out in the middle of the water.
Rowe Warehouse - The largest and most used warehouse, owned specifically by the Rowe share in Netherfield Associates, it was partially destroyed by the fire of 2068, and never was fully repaired, so there are some wings that are supposedly unused. These dangerous wrecked areas, though, are known in the underbelly of the city to host fights, animal fights with all sorts of exotic creatures, as well as fist fights. Want to make a name with that level of people? Yeah. Here's where you wanna be. Use a stage name, hide your identity, whatever; gamble and get "rich". Just don't get caught.
Netherfield Housing - Formerly the most occupied dwellings for the workers in the factories and docks, this housing was destroyed by the fires. It was not deemed worth the expense to rebuild it, or even to tear it down, so it remains a skeleton of a building. Used to be, vigils were in here all the time, sweeping and clearing out the homeless who stayed here, but for the past couple of years, it's been quiet on their part. Watch out, though. Might be some have rabies here, or other diseases; don't get yourself sick, now. Chances are, out here, nobody's gonna care if you die.
Netherfield Factory Complex - The main workplace for a large portion of the city, Netherfield Factory Complex is a series of factories that produces many of the products used in Tanner Hill, as well as miscellaneous goods that are exported. After the fire, some areas were shut down, but not completed torn down. They're dangerous, but nobody seems to be down there, not the way they are with the housing and the warehouses.
The outskirts, the edges of the city. They extend on the eastern side, though they are mostly accessible from the East. Nobody could quite decide where to place the cemetery and the nondenominational chapel, so they just put them outside of the four quarters so that nobody would have to be bothered by seeing too many poor people -- that was the main issue, the wealthy not wanting to have the average or worse in their neighborhood or having to traverse the South or West Sides for worship and their loved ones. So, they're in neutral territory. Beyond is a thick forest with a high spiked metal fence in front of it. For the safety of the citizens, of course.
Tanner Hill Chapel - The nondenominational chapel that can be used for any purpose, this simple, but pretty and elegant, stone building was created originally as an Episcopalian chapel when the first white settlers arrived, but over time, and after its occasional destruction, was completely generic for all Judeo-Christian faiths. It is frequently empty, though there are sometimes religious services. Tanner Hill has never been a city to inspire religious faith.
Nether Fields Cemetery - Though its official name is Tanner Hill Cemetery, the locals have taken to calling it Nether Fields cemetery, as that would essentially mean that it's the fields of nothingness which, perhaps, it is. Branching off from the back of the chapel, the cemetery extends to the edges of the woods with the fence in between. There are trees and flowers for decoration, though none close enough to use to leap over the spikes atop the wall. Some of the older gravestones are overgrown, though there are some plots especially for wealthy families that are kept always pristine.
